Cross-platform services development

Sports and other high-motion video place significantly higher demands on video processing and delivery than conventional film and television content. While 25/30 fps is sufficient for most cinematic material, professional broadcasting has traditionally relied on 50/60 fps—often carried in interlaced formats—to preserve natural motion.

This talk presents a complete software pipeline for preparing high-motion video, from MPEG-TS and SDI broadcast sources to playback on mobile devices, Smart TVs, and other OTT clients while preserving motion quality. The entire pipeline operates in real time using software running on commodity GPUs.

A central topic of the presentation is the automatic processing of commercials and other 25/30 fps inserts within 50/60 fps broadcasts. We discuss an intelligent frame interpolation pipeline that reconstructs high-frame-rate video in real time, maintaining consistent motion quality throughout the stream.

The talk also covers practical optimization techniques, including two-stage transcoding, efficient GPU resource scheduling, backward compatibility across a wide range of client devices, and adaptation to constrained network environments.

By the end of the session, attendees will have a practical understanding of how to build a complete OTT pipeline for high-motion video using software alone and commodity GPU hardware.
